Personae:
There’s Meli, a mermaid desalinating,
seeking reprieve from a cheerless story
and Jenn, a sun-scoured gardener who
plans alluring flyways for pollinators.
Meli’s mellifluous voice entices shoals of
silver-slip fish. She reaps kelp undersea
while patchy sunlight sparks odd reverie.
Jenn devotes hand-inscribed poems to
endangered wildlife and green gambits.
She’s still shadowed by that timorous /
adventurous girl who almost drowned.
